1. Pengertian
Dalam bahasa Inggris, "There is" dan "There are" digunakan untuk menyatakan keberadaan suatu benda atau orang (artinya: "Ada").
Perbedaan utamanya terletak pada jumlah (number) benda yang diikuti:

Positif (+):
* There is a cat on the sofa. (Ada seekor kucing di sofa.)
* There are three cats on the sofa. (Ada tiga kucing di sofa.)
Negatif (-): Tambahkan not setelah is/are.
* There is not (isn't) any milk. (Tidak ada susu.)
* There are not (aren't) any chairs. (Tidak ada kursi.)
Tanya (?): Letakkan Is/Are di depan.
* Is there a park near here? (Apakah ada taman di dekat sini?)
* Are there any cookies left? (Apakah ada kue yang tersisa?)
